CALDER FOLK has been funded by Arts Council England!

CALDER FOLK is an illustration installation project I have been developing inspired by the folklore and place legends of the Upper Calder Valley.

This project will involve the creation of five temporary illustrated installations in unexpected outdoor spaces across the Upper Calder Valley, working in partnership with Northern Earth Magazine and Hebden Folk and Roots Festival.

It will also include the creation of five illustrated prose poems, collated together accompanied by an illustrated map, which will link together each of the poems, illustrations and installations with a particular site of folklore or place legend; for people to find across the landscapes of the Upper Calder Valley between July- November 2021.

There will be a month long exhibition at Todmorden Information Centre in September 2021, which will act as a promotional hub for the project as it launches.

A further outcome of this project will be five musical micro commissions; audio works created in response to the artworks and places associated with them.

In response to the pandemic, Hebden Folk and Roots Festival will this year be an October Weekender at and around the Trades Club in Hebden Bridge.

This project will run parallel to this.

The commissions will launch in May 2021, be developed across the Summer of 2021 and showcased at the October event.

Keep your eyes on this page and my instagram for an open call for these commissions.

Finally, there will be an online exhibition via Northern Earth Magazine
October 2021- March 2022.
